Experimental methods in chemical engineering: Mössbauer spectroscopy

Abstract When a free nucleus absorbs or emits gamma ray, it recoils to conserve energy, just like gun after shooting bullet. Nuclei bound crystal lattice energy when they absorb emit rays from nuclear transition as are fixed so their movement is restricted. This restriction recoilless resonance fluorescence—the Mössbauer effect. The transmitted through sample reveals its electronic and molecular structure magnetic properties but only the atoms in source same isotope— 57 Co/ Fe most common couple. So, many of applications identify iron species how change function environmental conditions, corrosion. A bibliometric map identified six major clusters centred around: nanoparticles magnetite (Fe 3 O 4 ), spectroscopy, oxidation catalysis, X‐ray diffraction (XRD) Raman cathodes, Co thin films. In last 30 years, number articles per year that mention technique has hovered around 1250. More recently, spectroscopy experienced great rediscovery, particularly industrial sector for solution some problems, also space exploration.
